The West Philadelphia Improvement Corps WEPIC

The West Philadelphia Improvement Corps (WEPIC), a nationally recognized University-assisted, school based, service learning program operates day-time programs at Turner Middle School, Shaw Middle School, Wilson Elementary and University City High. WEPIC also sponsors community schools (evenings and weekends), summer youth employment, school to work initiatives, and Construction-Tech, a program that employs carpentry students at West Philadelphia High after school and in the summer as carpentry apprentices to rehabilitate homes in West Philadelphia.

Social Health Program - Turner Middle School
The Social Health Program has served over 300 children and their families by providing critically needed early intervention and prevention services to students and their families. Services are provided by the Program Director as a full time social worker, and graduate students from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Social Work. Program Director -- 476-7633

Healthy Start - Turner Middle School
The Healthy Start Program is designed to promote health awareness among teens in West Philadelphia. Healthy Start provides students with intensive adolescent health education combined with theater arts training. This combo gives students the opportunity to act as health advocates through both peer counseling and presentations. Program Director -- 898-7695

The Alliance Organizing Project (AOP)
The Alliance Organizing Project (AOP) is an effort to develop and support strong, independent parent/community organizations in each school across the School District of Philadelphia. For the schools in the West Philadelphia High School cluster, the project will empower the community by training and organizing collective leadership teams of parents and community members with sufficient power to hold their local schools accountable for meeting high educational standards.
